A great deal of energy and thought has been invested in anticipation of climate change on the Sunshine Coast by government, community, industry and research bodies over the last ten years.

Conservation Volunteers Australia and Shell have joined together to organise this forum for key organizations and people across Australia to engage in this process, and in this region they are working with SEQ Catchments to enhance local input.

This forum will present those activities and initiatives already happening, sometimes in isolation. It will provide a shared opportunity for review of where we are going in collectively adapting to the impact of climate change on the coast.

In the morning seminar, presentations from Shell, CVA, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, University of the Sunshine Coast and local Sunshine Coast initiatives will establish the context, explain climate proofing, outline Council’s draft climate change plan and map the local scene.

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organisation that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Slow Food Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a new convivium, launched on the 30th of July 2009. We are committed to supporting local producers of food that is good, clean and fair.

There's no movie this week, but there is the amazing Slow Cafe with Sacred Chef Catering from 12noon to 2pm - a divinely inspired lunch using local ingredients. Also available at Slow Thursday: long-ferment, handmade, wood-fired, organic sourdough (Pain de Campagne, Spelt, Olive & Fetta, Fruit & Nut) - orders taken to make sure don't miss out.

It's on! The first permablitz of the season will happen in Maleny on Saturday 5th September. Not sure what a permablitz is? Basically it's a garden working bee that focuses on setting up a food garden bed for the recipient using permaculture principles.

It's a great opportunity to learn more about backyard food production; our local food growing climate; it's fun, social and includes lunch! What more could you want from a free event? Ah...you might break a sweat...so bring hat, sun protective clothing, water bottles and some gardening tools if you have them.

Just email info@sustainablemaleny.org for venue and additional event details.

10:30am to 12noon

Cost: $3 per person

Slow Food Sunshine Coast Hinterland is very excited to facilitate this opportunity for you to give feedback to Safe Food and ask questions (outside of audit time!) about your Safety Management Plan. This is also a great opportunity for intending food producers to find out about the processes involved in food safety compliance.

Join food producers from throughout the Sunshine Coast Hinterland at this workshop with Kerry Bell from Safe Food Production Queensland. Kerry is the Manager - Strategic Evaluation and Assessment. After the group discussion, which will be facilitated by Julie Shelton, there will be time set aside for individual producers to have five minutes with Kerry, to talk with him about issues specific to their enterprise.

On Thursday 29th October, Slow Food Noosa will be hosting a breakfast with guest speaker Bruce Molloy of Veggie Village.

Veggie Village is a community garden at Peregian Beach. The idea to start a garden came out of Bruce Molloy’s frustration when, after failing to grow veggies in sandy soil in his backyard, he came up with an idea to “Build a classroom and wait for the teachers to turn up“.

The teachers or Gurus as they’re now known have turned up en masse and hold regular workshops and working bees to teach “The Village People” how to grow veggies in individual and communal veggie patches.
