We've been a little slow in getting started this year, but the date for the next meeting has now been set. Come along for our first big meeting for the year on Saturday 29th March, 2-4pm at the Masonic Hall, Tamarind Street, Maleny.

Now more than ever, it's time to roll our sleeves up and prepare for bumpy times ahead. With oil well over $US100, the US economy deflating like an old balloon, and food prices marching ever upwards, things are becoming rather urgent. We have to start building our sustainable society now, while we still have the resources and economy to do it. And what better place to start than our own doorstep?

We've proven that remarkable things can be achieved when communities form co-operative efforts. Our Solar Hot Water drive delivered exactly 100 heavily discounted solar hot water systems to homes on the Range. Our Bridge Creek Gardens project is in full swing, and has received a mammoth amount of effort and enthusiasm from many volunteers. It's time to follow up with more such initiatives. Are YOU willing to stand up play a part?

Here are some ideas for projects which have been received some interest so far, but not much action. Can you help make them reality?

  • Photovoltaic Solar Drive
  • Car pooling
  • Permablitz network
  • More community gardens
  • Community stall at Witta Markets
  • Re-skilling workshops
  • Energy Descent Action Plan
  • Electric vehicle drive (er, bulk buy)
  • Tool-share Groups
  • Water Refill Station
  • "Tupperware" parties
  • Alliances & Relationship
  • Publicity (& merchandising)
  • Web site
  • Fund-raising
  • Or do you have some other idea for a project that you could get excited about, if only you had some co-conspirators?

We'll also have a showing of SEED International's short inspirational film "Think Global : Eat Local - A diet for a sustainable society". For more info, visit http://www.localfood.net.au

    See you there!
