RURBAN FUTURE – transforming rural and urban landscape for a post fossil fuel era

Dr Richard Mochelle - Architect, lecturer of ethics in architecture QUT, ex DNR & designer of the Boonah project with SEQ Catchments.

Richard will introduce his rurban systems design concept – a whole systems planning methodology – aimed not only at assuring economic and ecological sustainability, but a higher quality of life, in what will become a hotter, dryer, more populated and energy deprived future.


FUTURES TESTING - Computer Modelling Tools

Dr Ken Lyons – Principal Consultant and Director, Spatial Information Services Pty Ltd

Ken will demonstrate his spectacular computer modelling planning tools for 'Futures Testing' and for 'Try Before You Commit' scenario planning options. We will explore Sunshine Coast Hinterland examples such as: Maleny Community Village Precinct, the Hunchy area, Farm Forestry, and Riparian Corridor regulation impacts.


THINK GLOBAL - EAT LOCAL

Morag Gamble - Living Systems Designer, SEED International, Permaculture International, Australian City Farms & Community Gardens Network

Morag will present a short slideshow presentation of her Maleny Film Festival exhibit “Think Global- Eat Local”. This film shows local communities around the world that have existing sustainable and resilient Agri-CULTURAL food production systems, along with the lessons they can teach us.


RE-INVENTING THE VILLAGE

Gabi Bohnet - Architect, Sustainability Advocate, Town planner and Consultant from Germany

Gabi will guide us through an amazing settlement in Germany where many genuinely sustainable approaches were implemented.

She is currently on a speaking tour on 'Sustainable Settlements in Germany' and has presented new planning strategies and results to various Councils including the Sunshine Coast Regional Council planners. Her vision is to overcome the green-wash and to achieve re-invented genuine sustainable approaches and outcomes.


COMPLEX SYSTEMS - Participating in Transformative Change

Dr Kate Crawford - Director, Eviva Pty Ltd

Kate will provide a brief introduction to concepts of complex adaptive systems and the ways they shape the reality of people who live and work in them. Kate will provide examples of transformative changes in outcomes in Education, Defence and Elite Sport that have resulted when levels of commitment and participation in collaborative activity are enhanced.
