Poll is too either/or
The Council plans to spend 2 years doing community consultation before making a decision on the future of the Porters Farm Community Precinct. Over the last few years there have been a range of groups pushing particular barrows, often acrimoniously. The area is large enough to fit a great many of the proposed options in, the problem may be more one of funding. I would like to suggest that the "poll" being conducted on this web site is not particularly helpful, as it promotes an either/or choice, which unfortunately promotes an adversarial position. Sustainable solutions are not just about places and technologies but about people. If the majority of the community decide they want a golf course than a more sustainable outcome would be for the 'golf course' to be integrated into a range of other solutions. Any golf course in Maleny should be 'organically certified' as is the golf course at Noosa, this would mean that no chemical pesticides and fertilisers were being used right in the centre of our urban community. In addition irrigation would be by greywater only, as part of a waste treatment process; habitat and wildlife corridors would be part of the overall design. Walkways and bikeways would give additional 'green space' benefits.

To early to poll?
I agree - the poll is too simple. An early version of this poll had included a couple of 'some of the above' options, but the point was made that most people would probably just pick those, which would tell us little.
I guess the problem is that there is no one simple solution for the Precinct. Therefore, perhaps it's too early for a poll; we should wait until there are some more clearly defined options.
